We have learned the easy and hard way the inside scoop on getting published. Writing and getting a book on store shelves is a long process however it is very rewarding and satisfying. We are going to give you the straight scoop so you can have a great publishing experience.

 

1. Every one has a book inside them. Write what you know about, have experienced, and what you are passionate about.

 

2. The content must be authentic, real. If not, people will read right through you. (No pun intended)

 

3. Tone and voice can make or break your book. Be sure it is what makes you proud and that you can stand behind every word.

 

4. Self-publishing can be very lucrative and you have the control. If you can prove you sold a lot of books you can take that to an agent more easily than trying to get an agent with no book. You get credibility by publishing a book.

 

5. The key to being a good writer is to put your bottom in the chair and write. Don’t wait for inspiration, make it happen.

 

6. One does not necessarily get rich writing books. But, you can by selling them.

 

7. Publishers don’t buy books, they buy marketing plans. Build a platform because that is what sells the book, period. Build up an email list, become a speaker, be an expert on local television, become a columnist. Build a fan base.
